I wanted to make something special for my dad's birthday this year. When I found the Tree of Life pattern on the Web site I knew I'd found the perfect project. I knitted the afghan during my free time and it took me about 2 1/2 months to complete.
My dad loved this afghan and a was impressed because up until now the biggest thing I've ever knitted for him was a scarf.
For me the hardest part of making this afghan was trying to figure out the flower garden stitch. Thankfully, there was an old Lion Brand Knit-Along for this pattern that had photos showing how the stitch was made. The Knit-Along blog also had good information/tips from other knitters who made this afghan.
The only changes I made to the pattern was the direction of the cable stitches because I'm a left handed knitter. (That's also why my tulip border goes in the opposite direction.)
