I met Ruth over 15 years ago. She mentored me in the love of God, and also became a spiritual mother to me. I made the shawl for her because she is a missionary in Israel. I wanted to say thank you for all the years she has loved me to Jesus. There is symbolism behind the shawl. Psalms 122:6 says “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.” I chose the shell stitch is because of the 3 connected stitches representing the God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. I began with 8 rows. Eight represents new beginnings. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The blue stripes have a total of 7 rows. The number “7” signifies the number of perfection. There are ten rows counting upwards in the center of the shawl. Ten represents the Ten Commandments. I made 48 tassels. Israel became a nation in 1948. Ruth was blessed when I gave her the prayer shawl. I was too!
