I made my first Baby Shawl in 1969 for my daughter (then packed it away for her for her daughter) I have made several of these different sizes and colors-used them for gifts for new babies or house warming Afghans for couch or bed-pattern is about 50 years old but 4 or 5 different patterns combined to make up my own design-sort of a mix and match. Panels are made with popcorn stitches worked into the panels then joined with an interlocking lattice work.
