size 8 knitting needles, straight and circular
Coral Button, found and drilled
Polyester Material(lining)
Pattern Source: original:
This project was a labor of lover for our first grandchilds' mommy. Using double-strands the front, bottom, back and closing flap were knitted on size 8 needles in 1 piece measuring almost 4 feet prior to felting. Bag sides and inside bottom was knitted in one piece, knitted in a simple stockinette stitch. After knitting the seed stitch edging was rolled in half along all edges and sewn in place by hand with Fishermans Wool prior to felting. The bag was assembled by hand and felted. The rolled edges provided both a finished look and strengthened the finished shaping. The completed bag measures an ample(17.5 x 12 x 6 inches) to accommadate either use, with I-cord handles that can be used over the shoulders for hands-free use. The inside liner boasts easy access pockets for bottle, diaper and cell phone. I choose to keep the finished bag color selection monotone for use outside of baby, but added machine sewn cotton organizers in the mom's whimsical color pallet. The finishing touch was a piece of coral mirroring the seed-stitch texture as the closure button.
