I love to make crochet granny square afghans. I use Lion Brand Homespun to make my huge afghans. This yarn makes a wonderfully soft and heavy afghan. The usual size of the afghans is approximately 58" X 78" which will cover a queen-size bed. I make my afghans for sell, for friends, and family. I believe the granny square is one of the easiest afghans to make.
I use the double crochet stitch and make 12 squares with 15 rows per square. I do a single crochet all the way around the square doing two single crochets, chain one, two single crochets in the corners. Using a craft needle, I sew the squares together. This give each square a sturdier anchor to keep the squares together and gives me a 3 X 4 square afghan. Once all my squares are connected, I either do a single crochet or double crochet around the whole afghan to give a finished border.
