Apple Tea Cozy
Created By: Kelly Travis
Pattern Source: other:

I couldn't find a tea cozy pattern I liked, so I designed my own! This is a super easy project that knits quickly because it is made using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn. Because I decided to make it look like an apple, I chose the Cranberry color. Here is the pattern:

Leaving a long tail for sewing seams later, cast on 20 sts.

Knit 5 inches of stockinette stitch ending on a purl row.

On next 4 rows, k2tog at beg and end of row. End with a purl row. 12 stitches remaining.

Cut yarn about 8 inches and thread through remaining stitches on needle. Remove stitches from needle.

Repeat for second side, but end with a knit row.

Sew the side seams about 1" up the lower (cast-on) edge.

Leaving openings for the spout and handle, sew the side seams from top to about 1/2" down the straight part.

Pull the top stitches together and tie the tails together.

Sew in all ends.

I made the leaves by needle felting them, but you could just cut them out of green felt. They are attached to a doubled, twisted black pipe cleaner which is inserted into the small hole at the top where the remaining stitches are gathered. Bend the ends up to hold it in place. This can be removed to launder your tea cozy.
