For the past decade, The Handiwork Ministry has provided handcrafted goods to those who need comfort in the US and Canada. Recipients have included people in hospitals, nursing homes, cancer treatment centers, children’s support agencies, domestic violence programs, the US military, and more. In the past, members have knitted and crocheted everything from afghans to hot/cold packs, but the organization is always open to project ideas.
Members of the Handiwork Ministry do more than give back to those in need; the organization understands the importance of sharing skills. All levels of crafters are invited to join, with current members taking the time to teach others new crafting skills. Members also teach crafting to scout troops, 4-H clubs, and other groups in western New York.
Donations may be knitted or crocheted from any appropriate pattern. Because the Handiwork Ministry donates to a wide variety of causes, sizing is not an issue. Items should be made out of easy-care synthetic yarns (we recommend Vanna's Choice, Microspun, or Babysoft). You can also help by donating plastic storage bags, clear garbage bags, packing tape, and postage stamps. Please note that monetary donations are never solicited.
Visit the Handiwork Ministry's website for more information on local meetings and donations.
