Do not understimate the power of a simple scarf. This is a great gift project--the scarf is soft and warm and very wearable. There are endlessly complex scarf patterns out there and I've knit some of them--but I find this humble basic scarf fashionable and pragmatic (and affordable)! One skein of Homespun and a bit of time and you'll have a happy recipient. I made another one in a brown color for my mother-in-law and I swear she almost cried.
