Martha's Coming Home Poncho
Created By: Barbara Clairmont
Here I am on July 2nd at The Tip Top House at the summit of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire - where the winds are the highest recorded on earth! - wearing my Coming Home poncho. Although it was a lovely day in the high 70s at the base of the mountain, it was only 40 at the summit, and with winds over 30 mph, the wind chill factor was well below the freezing point, so I'm sure glad I had the foresight to bring my Martha Poncho with me that day! :)
To date I've made 4 Martha Ponchos: one for my mother, two for myself, and because my sister admired them so much, I've already made one for her that will be under her tree next Christmas. I'm currently working on my 5th Martha Poncho for my best friend, Gloria, as a surprise for her.
I'm sure I'll make many more Martha Ponchos in the months and years to come. Additionally, I'd like to start making them to give to women who flee the horrors of an abusive relationship at the local women's crisis shelter so they might feel wrapped in the soft caccoon of softness, warmth, and love that I feel whenever I wear my poncho. As they are now, so once was I. There IS hope, and there IS a better future waiting for them.
All my best wishes to Martha!
Barbara
