Americana Star Ripple Afghan
Created By: Susan Sutter
Pattern Source: other:
I wanted an afghan to coordinate with an Americana themed bedroom. In this bedroom I have pictures and memorabilia of family members who served in the military... my father, uncle, youngest son and my oldest son. My oldest son was killed in Iraq 5 years ago and this room was dedicated in his memory (Sgt. Jacob Herring, Stryker Brigade/Ft. Lewis, Washington). I have pictures of my family members, my son's achievements and awards and even a flag carried by a unit while serving in Iraq that was awarded to me for my efforts to support soldiers through hosting local donations and contributions. I still help out our troops every chance I get- I feel it is important.
This project used the new Lionbrand's superwash merino wool. I used a star or spiral throw pattern in crochet (I used a pattern I found online), using an I hook (#9) and 7 balls of the merino wool, all color coordinated to go with the Americana theme... lt blue, denim, gold, red and white. The color pattern can be created to suit your needs and even with 7 balls I had some left over. It measures a little over 60" from point to point. I would definitely suggest this to a friend - the quality and softness of the yarn is unbelievable. It is wonderful to work with!
