Two Cute Cardi
Created By: Sheila Bragg-Nance
I've been crocheting for about a year and with each project I've tried to learn new stitches. So, with this pattern I really enjoyed learning how to do the bobble stich. I was looking for a nice easy pattern to crochet (quickly, I might add) for my granddaughters(5 & 8) for Christmas and came across the Giovanna Cardi pattern. I had on hand a ball of Lion Brand 4 ply worsted weight Yarn (the one with a pound of yarn), which easily made two cardi's with enough left over for another project. I used hook size K, rather than the J called for and added more rows. Although the instructions confused me a little to begin with, which necessitated pulling out some of what I had done, once into it, it worked up pretty easily. On the 2nd sweater, I first pulled off (2) 36" strands of yarn needed to start the arm holes, rather than end off at the body, create the armhole and then come back and rejoin the yoke again. Much fewer ends my way. I also single crocheted around the entire body, rather than slip stich, to give a more finished look and a better foundation for a button/buttonhole. I also tacked down the lapels - I just thought they looked better that way. On one of the cardi's I attached a flower, which has a hole in the center that became the buttonhole for the button. I thought it dressed it up nicely. Thank you Lion Brand for such a great pattern.
