Making a Difference
Created By: Gail Brundage
I was a surgical nurse when I had my first stroke at age 50. In 2006, after several more strokes, my legs quit working and I was no longer able to walk! Sudden death to a 30 yr. nursing career!
What should have been a disaster, became, for me, a blessing. I picked up knitting because I wanted to copy a beautiful washcloth someone gave me as a party gift. It progressed rapidly to crocheting baby blankets and a shawl for my mother (my chief encourager). I was finding it restful and conducive to prayer for whoever it was being made.
While finding instructions and patterns on the internet, I stumbled on the prayer shawl catalog from Lion Brand Yarn. At the same time, two of our women at church were diagnosed with cancer and our pastors wife was having difficulty with her pregnancy. These shawls were prayed over by our prayer team. It was something I could do. It provided comfort and a sense of hope for all three. It provided direction for my enforced retirement!
Since April, 2007, I have made more than 43 prayer afghans, shawls, ponchos, scarves and even kitchen towel holders. It is a creative outlet I have never had the time or motivation to do before. Thank you so much for your support of this ministry!!
