My personal story
Created By: Diane Curtis
I feel compelled to tell the story of my personal experience with our newly formed prayer shawl ministry. I belong to a small rural church, and we started making our shawl's earlier this year. I decided to make one to contribute rather than just donating yarn to someone else to knit. I had no idea who would get the one I made, but it made me feel good to be contributing. Before I finished, my dearest best friend for over 36 years was in a serious car accident involving a semi truck. I quickly finished the shawl, took it to church for a blessing, and gave it to her when her recovery was such that she could remember getting it. She LOVED it, as well as the fact that I made it. She was in the hospital and rehab for almost 8 weeks, and before she left, her shawl came up missing. About 2 days before she was released, the shawl was returned to her, probably from the hospital laundry. She was SO happy to have it back. So I've started another one, again not knowing who will receive it, but praying that my family and friends stay safe. Other women in our church have shared stories of being out and knitting and getting a great joy from sharing the story of our ministry, and I was able to do that as well while visiting my friend in the hospital. The ministry is so rewarding to all!
