Hospice care
Created By: Linda Haverty
Our Prayer Shawl ministry started about 3 years ago. We have a dedicated core of about 6 women. A couple of years ago, a home health care provider came to us and asked if we could provide "prayer" shawls for their hospice patients. One of the owners of the company had experienced a prayer shawl when her sister was terminally ill the year before. It has been a rewarding project. Just when we began to wonder if we really made a difference, we recieved a wonderful thank you note and a generous donation to purchase more yarn from the widow of one of the hospice patients. She shared the comfort that one of our shawls had brought to their family.
When we donate a shawl to the hospice care, we tie a blessing card that contains a prayer and our church's address.
We gather once a month to bless the shawls that our members have created. We also sit and fellowship and work on yarn projects at that time. We have been blessed many times, and hopefully have brought comfort to people in need of a "hug".
