Nana's Shawl
Created By: Jenna Maiorelle
My church first started our prayer shawl ministry about a year ago. I wasn't really that dedicated to it, honestly (I haven't actually finished one yet!), but I had a few going that I worked on every once in a while.
A few months ago, my grandma (Nana) got very sick. When I would visit her in the hospital, she'd complain of being too cold. I decided to make her a prayer shawl to keep her warm and remind her that I love her. My mother was very enthusiastic about the idea, and we went to the store to get supplies.
The months went by, and eventually Nana got out of the hospital and I forgot about the shawl, working on my other projects. Unexpectedly, Nana had a stroke yesterday, and she passed away early this morning. During a meeting discussing funeral arrangements this afternoon, one of my aunts mentioned that she had a letter she had been meaning to mail to Nana for a while, and she decided to put it into her casket. The family agreed enthusiastically, adding that they each had something they would like to put in the casket. Suddenly, I remembered my prayer shawl. Can I finish it in time for the funeral, three days from now? I think, Lord willing, I will be able to finish it and place it in her casket, just to remind her I love her. :)
