how I stay busy while waiting
Created By: Pat Wilcox
My husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 - between doctor appointments, tests, chemo treatments, a bone marrow transplant and hospital recovery, we spend a lot of time at doctor's appointments, both for him and me, who also has multiple sclerosis - I spend a lot of time knitting dishcloths which helps to pass the time as well as keeping my fingers flexible, either while riding in the car or waiting for the various appointment. I had planned to sell the dishcloths at holiday craft shows - however, as the holidays arrived, I decided to use 40 of them to thank the nursing staff for the excellent care he got at rochester general and strong hospitals - after all, you can always knit more dishcloths and, it is a lot easier to fit knitting for dishcloths in a tote bag than it is to drag along whatever afghan I am working on at home at night to relax. I watch for sales and coupons and always have a selection of lion brand cotton yarns available to use, so I can mix and match different colors.
I use a pattern similar to the one in this newsletter which is especially helpful since my mind wanders alot with the ms; the repetition of the pattern makes it easier to correct if you make a mistake, which I often do. Several people have mentioned what a good idea it is to take knitting, as it not only takes your mind off whatever is going on, but it helps to break the ice with other people in the same situation. I have also given away my dish cloths to people who have taken an interest in either the pattern or particular color I am working on.
