I love flying, but I hate being idle and the feeling of "wasting time" when I fly. About 18 months ago, I had occasion to travel from Florida to Salt Lake City to visit with my daughter. I decided to take my knitting needles and some cotton yarn to make my typical dishrag. The pattern worked up very quickly on the flight. The passenger across the aisle from me asked many questions about what I was doing and why. We had a lovely conversation as I knitted, a conversation joined by a warm and congenial flight attendant. I finished the dishrag and gave it to my fellow passenger. She was delighted and praised it effusively. The flight attendant was also quite complimentary. I had another dishrag on needles in my bag, about 1/2 finished. I quickly knitted the rest of the item and gave it to the flight attendant. She beamed and assured me it would be her "lucky dishrag" on every flight from Tampa to Salt Lake City.
