Knitting Club at Work
Created By: Guy Charbonneau
My mother taught me how to knit when I was a teenager. I have been knitting ever since (I am now in my late forties). Being a male knitter, I was too shy to talk about my passion to anyone, until recently! I have started to talk about my knitting and decided to show what I was making. Some of my colleagues became so inspired that they wanted to learn how to knit too. I thought about this and decided to start a knitting club at work. I wanted to keep it simple, so we meet every Tuesday during lunch time; we knit, we share patterns and we have lots of fun. Since our working environment is quite stressful these days, I bring a different classical CD each week to introduce my colleagues to classical music while we knit. This Club has been going on for about two months now. Many beginners showed up on the first day. One of them was left handed and was never able to learn. I searched the web, I found videos and learned how to knit left handed so I could teach her; she is now working on her third project. Others had not knitted in years and have decided to start again. This is totally amazing. I am planning to have an exhibition in the fall so the rest of our colleagues can see what we have made.
