Use My Hands O, Lord
Created By: Sue Antos
I have crocheted for years, but just one and off. I had learned very few basic stitches as a child, I think from my aunt. I had not done it in years, when I felt like I wanted to start doing it again, but what to do with it?
I found a site that was making chemo caps for cancer patients, and since my mom had recently passed away from cancer, this seemed like a good fit. I started crocheting away. Still, something seemed lacking.
Then, a very dear friend of mine was diagnosed with an extremely agressive breast cancer, and was looking at a double mastectomy at just 38 years old. I wasn't sure what to do, her being a country apart. That's when I came across a prayer shawl ministry online. I knew her favorite color was purple, and that was it. I began my first shawl.
It brought such joy to sit in prayer for her as I made each stitch, and when it was done, made caps to match. It arrived to her in time for her trip for her surgery, and she brought it to the hospital with her as a reminder that God is in control, and that many were in prayer for her.
So far, my ministry is pretty much just me. I tried to start meetings at our church, but it wound up impossible to get people together. I have since given shawls to teachers at my daughters school who have lost a loved one, a lady at church who's daughter passed, another going thru cancer, and so on. While it is just me, that is enough. God blessed me with the gift of crochet, and heart of caring, and if He wishes it to grow more, He will provide.
I crochet every day, while I sit in prayer. As needs arise, I focus prayer on them, while I work. It is my quiet time, and brings such peace.
