Touch of Love
Created By: Yvette Tanner
I just wanted to tell you about a very special prayer shawl ministry. We began about 18 months ago. The name of our ministry is called “Touch of Love”. We get together as a group once a month to knit and crochet together, but the real work goes on between those meetings. To date, we have given over 100 prayer shawls and throws out to people in need. Not only do we give them to people in our church but to the community as well. The response to our ministry has been astonishing – our congregation has responded with prayer and giving so that we will always have yarn to knit and crochet with.
I would like to share one of our many stories with you. A visitor to our church came up to me and asked if she could buy a shawl. I told her they were not for sale but that we would gladly give her one. She than asked me if she had to tell me why she needed a shawl. I told her only if she wanted to. There were tears in her eyes; she didn’t think that anyone would pray for her or give her something that was tangible, with no strings attached. I haven’t seen this person since that day, but I feel that when she puts the shawl on she will feel the warmth of prayer wrapped around her. There are many stories similar to this. But the best is what we get back from giving – there are no words to explain how this makes us feel.
We know of two ministries that have started because of ours – and from what we’ve heard, they are as successful as ours. Every couple of months, we dedicate our shawls during Sunday service – our pastor is in full support of our work and he gives the blessing and helps in passing the shawls out.
The majority of our shawls are made with Lion Brand yarn – usually Homespun, which everyone loves! Keep making the yarn, and we’ll keep making the shawls!
