A Missed Stitch (MS)
Created By: Elizabeth Stout
My knitting ministry has developed over 7 years, starting and participating in groups that make prayer shawls, blankets, baby items, and chemo caps for charities. I also conduct day-long knitting retreats. In the context of spiritual guidance, a seeker came to me and wrapped herself in a handy shawl because my office was chilly. Before leaving, she asked where a shawl could be bought. I said they were never for sale, but offered an instruction sheet. Even as one who in the past had crocheted, she ended up asking for one-on-one coaching. She loved the fuschia yarn, and it raised her spirits, but after months of frustration, dropped stitches, frayed ends and temper, we gave up. Recently, she called to tell me she had been diagnosed with mild Multiple Sclerosis (MS). "A Missed Stitch, that doctor was right on the money," she lamented. "Give me your yarn," I said. "You've got a shawl coming for free."
