This shawl or lap robe was handmade for you by...
Created By: Becky B
This shawl or lap robe was handmade for you by the East Mesa Baptist Church Prayer Shawl Ministry. It will not heal you or change your life; only God’s power and your faith in Him can do those things. As this shawl or lap robe was created, we prayed for you. We asked the Lord to bless you and give you the courage and strength to overcome life’s difficulties. This shawl or lap robe represents tangible evidence of that prayer, so that knowing we are praying for you might be a comfort to you.
The above words are printed onto a colored tag and tied onto the item that we give each recipient of our prayer shawls. Our ministry, the East Mesa Baptist Church Prayer Shawl Ministry began after I purchased the Lion Brand Prayer Shawl instruction book at my local Hobby Lobby Craft Store. The moment I started reading it, I knew this ministry was meant to be at my church. I was so excited to share it with my Women's Ministry group at a regular meeting. That meeting was in May of 2006. At that meeting, 15 women signed up to crochet, knit or prayer for the ministry. This May will be our second anniversary. By then, we should be well over 175 handmade items. I say handmade, because we have expanded over the months to include not only shawls but also lap robes, afghans and baby blankets. We even made neck scarves for two young men in our congregation who were going to Moscow, Russia as missionaries and could not fit afghans into their limited luggage space. We have even discussed the idea of adding chemotherapy hats and scarves to our handmade item’s list. In the last couple of months, we started a crochet class and it has made all the difference in our ministry. New students as well as old timers meet to pray and learn and fellowship while working on projects. This has become a special time for sharing for our members. As anyone who begins a ministry will find out, you are not only being a blessing for the recipient of the handmade item, you get a blessing as well. It is one of the most worthwhile projects I have ever been a part of. I thank you for your publication and am looking forward to the upcoming one.
