When my mother was dying of ALS, Lou Gehrig's...
Created By: Courtney Lawton

When my mother was dying of ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease, her friend Constance Roy, of Edgewood, NM, made her a prayer shawl that was blessed on the altar of the local Episcopal church. The prayer shawl arrived, heavy with the scent of incense, and soft and fluffy. My mother, confined to her wheelchair, suffered from cold and drafts, and the shawl was warm enough to drape around her shoulders, but not so heavy as to weigh on her emaciated shoulders. What a blessing. When she died, we cared for her body, washed her, dressed her in her wedding gown (plain linen and lace) and put the prayer shawl over her feet.

Many blessings upon the prayer shawl ministry of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Edgewood, NM, and upon Constance Roy.
