I'm not a member of a formal prayer shawl group but my knitting shop owner is quite active. An old high school friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer and it was quite serious and fast moving. We all felt so helpless but we vowed to do what we could to give him peace and love in the time he had with us.

I had found a kit for a dragon scarf what I had had my eye on for awhile. A dragon was our high school mascot. I got it and started knitting and praying. When it was done Duane was in the hospital not doing well. I went to visit him in the morning and took the scarf and when I got there the bed in his hospital room was empty. He had been discharged home with Hospice care.

I was disappointed but packed the scarf and took it to the post office. I asked it to be sent "next day delivery" since it was going to a very sick friend. That would be $21. No matter, I said. The postal clerk said that the address would probably be delivered the next day any way at regular rate and I decided to chance it. $4 and off it went.

That was Friday at 2pm. Duane passed to heaven that very night at 10pm with family all around. I was so sad that he never got to feel the prayers and love and warmth of my dragon friend but I was sure my intentions were felt anyway.

At the wake the next week his wife thanked me so much for the wonderful prayerful fantaciful dragon. She said Duane had seen it and loved it and was comforted by it. But how could he? He passed only a few hours after I had mailed it. Somehow it had gotten to him. I believe it was hand delivered by Jesus. It is my prayer shawl miracle. I believe!
