I have been crocheting for many years and joined...
Created By: Shirley Nelson
I have been crocheting for many years and joined a crochet group in our little church in Flemington, New Jersey. Our secretary called it "Skeins of Hope." At that time we combined our squares and made beautiful afghans that were either donated or raffled off to benefit the church. When my family moved to Michigan I continued the crochet group at Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church. One day a friend E-mailed me about a prayer shawl ministry. I bought the book as did the church and our new little group has been making prayer shawls, baby afghans and lap throws for people who request them or as surprise gifts. I took one shawl pattern and using a smaller hook made a shawl for a 4-year-old battling cancer. Her mother's was made from the regular pattern, but I felt so happy having sent them along with some angel bears. Our little group continues to make shawls and other gifts that have gone to people under hospice care, new mommies, and our church secretary. They are blessed by our pastor before being passed on. "Skeins of Hope" contines to bring God's hope to our church family and to people in need. Shirley
