My church started a prayer shawl ministry several...
Created By: Ruth Salter
My church started a prayer shawl ministry several years ago. Because I have been interested in knnitting for years, I joined the group, which has been meeting on the first Monday of every month. I have made about 6 shawls, and enjoyed doing it. In November of last year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and then my husband of 61 yrs. had a stroke. Fortunately, his stroke was not major, and I had two surgeries for my cancer. I picked out a color yarn that appealed to me, a deep blue, and made another shawl, which I delivered to the church to be delivered to some needy soul. Much to my amazement, the same shawl was delivered to me, and a lap robe to my husband. I felt I didn't need it,and put it away in the closet. I started chemo in January, and was acceepting it well. On February 15, my husband was rushed to the hospital to undergo double by-pass surgery. I was crushed! Now was the time for the shawl. I has comforted me , and the prayers I put into it, are helping me add to my daily prayers. We are both improving, and look forward to our life together again
