Love of a church

I am a member of the Wesley United Methodist of Lakeland, Fl., and we have a lady that makes our prayer shawls. These are given to someone who is sick, or to the spouse of an ill person, so that they may feel the love of the church, after we have put them on the alter, and have prayed for the receiver, with our hands on. This has been a confort for many of our church family. And we hope that it will continue to do so.
I am not sure how this was started, but it was going on when I joined the Church here in Lakeland.
