Knit Wits
Created By: Betty Marzke

Knit Wits started at Redeemer Lutheran in early 2006. One or two people wanted to meet to knit and visit each other and a third party had ordered the Prayer Shawl Ministry book from Mary Maxim.

And so it began.

We soon had cards made by a friend and a lap robe or shawl accompanied hospital visits. We have dedications of the shawls about four times a year and prayer at every meeting.

In the last year we have added a simple T shaped sweater and knitted bears and rabbits. The bears and rabbits are given to children who are baptized in our church or to children in hospital. Praise GOD only one was needed for a hospital visit and that was a birth.

The T shaped sweaters have been shipped to LAMP, gone with travellers to the Ukraine, Guatemala, and Baja, Mexico with another batch being readied to go to Nicaragua. We trust that these travellers are lead by GOD to give these where they are needed.

The teddy bears and rabbits are also travelling to other places.

We get many wonderful acknowledgements from the recipients of the shawls and their families. They are a wonderful ministry gift.

We ask for yarn donations from the congregation and have been blessed beyond our imaginings.

Our long-term goal is to include men and young people in the group.
