prayer shawl ministry-- Heber Spring, Arkansas
Created By: N Nancy
Our group was started 5 years ago by a local Methodist minister's wife who was an ordained minister also. Her name was Susan Miles. She had a small church in Quitman Arkansas- about 12 miles from here. She came to a newly opened yarn shop to buy yarn and told the owner-Carol Creasy - about this ministry. They decided to start a group in Heber Springs. It was an instant sucess. Several of us have been in it from the start.Susan has moved as has the shop and we have gained new members from everywhere. The original members- are at the new location as well as new-comers. We have several ladies who do work from home for us and one retired doctor who creates his own patterns and gives us the beautiful shawls.I cannot begin to tell you the lives that have been touched with the prayer shawl ministry. Some of our shawls have given hope, the message of love and unfortunately-been buried with the recipient. One person wrote-- I am no longer afraid- I am protected and surrounded by prayers and love .We tell all who receive a shawl-- every stitch is a prayer. We have a new co-ordinator-- Marcia Clayton-- and she keeps records of the recipients, delivers shawls as we all do and helps us bless our shawls. I never want to leave this wonderful ministry-who ever started this , as one person said-- is evidence that God's angels do walk among us on earth.Thankyou for letting me share our story. We spend 2 hour meeting each week and countless making and delivering shawls. The only advice I would give-- keep it simple, use your imagination in the colors and patterns- as a friend said-- there is no yarn police--and get the word out to the community-work with church groups but keep in non-denominational so all can join.Again - thankyou Lionbrand for promoting this wonderful ministry. I love your yarns. Nancy Provost
