Giving back
Created By: Yvonne Wigfall
My ministry is in it's youth. I began my prayer shawl ministry about a year ago. My church has some awesome, inspirational and spiritual women I consider great mentors. One in particular, Sister M. has been a member of our church for over 40 years. I decided to make her a shawl and was I ever surprised at her reaction, she laughed, cried and hugged me ever so tightly. I told her she was responsible in making me the woman I am today. My ministry is just a one-person-ministry, although I am trying to recruit two other ladies that also knit and crochet. To see and feel the reactions of the recipients touches my heart in ways I cannot ever begin to describe. It does my heart good and I am very happy. I dedicate at least five days a week (more if I can) to my ministry, It's been a slow process ( I have a total of 25 prayer shawls to complete but, I will finish them. My advise to others who wish to start a prayer shawl ministry is to engage others who knit and crochet in your family, church or community. Meet often, and have a plan as to whom will receive the shawls. Always place a small note of thanks or an inspirational message with the shawl. What I try to do with my ministry is make the shawls in a color the recipient likes (which I found out prior).
Good luck!!!
