Our prayer shawl ministry began two years ago...
Created By: Marilyn Rozelle
Our prayer shawl ministry began two years ago last February. In that time, we have given more than 300 prayer shawls to people in our community and beyond. One was mailed to Wales. Several were given to the relatives of victims of the Virginia Tech shootings. We have received many lovely notes and letters of thanks.
The shawls are dedicated during a healing service at the altar of our United Methodist Church with the participation of bothe the knitters and the members of the congregation. We enclose a card with a drawing of our church and a message for the recipient.
The following is a video that was shown on our local television station that describes our ministry:

"Knit Wits"
The “Knit Wits” Prayer Shawl Ministry Group at the Forty Fort United Methodist Church
They call themselves the “Knit Wits.” They are a group of women from teenagers to grandmothers who gather each week at the Forty Fort United Methodist Church to knit prayer shawls. As the women knit, they pray and they are also “knitted together” in service. The finished prayer shawls are blessed in a special service and given to people in need. The prayers and the shawls go a long way for people who are sick or elderly, providing warmth and the knowledge that someone cares. The shawls have to men and women, young and old, around the corner, across the country and as far as Europe.
For more information, call the Forty Fort United Methodist Church at 570-287-3840. The Forty Fort United Methodist Church is located at 26 Yeager Avenue, in Forty Fort. If you know someone who is interested in receiving a prayer shawl, you may visit the church Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to Noon, or Sunday evenings 6:30 to 8:30 p.m."
(If you are interested in having me develop this story, please reply to me. We also have had a lovely article and picture in our newspaper that I will forward to you).
