Prayer Shawls for Friends
Created By:
To Those at Lion Brand Yarn:
I purchased a book called “Prayer Shawl Ministry” that you published two or three years ago, the editor-in-chief being Sandra Graham Case. Since then I have had occasion to make 4 prayer shawls for friends undergoing fairly serious surgery. All were very touched by the gesture, as I explained to them that whenever they so much as looked at the shawl, they would be reminded that my thoughts and prayers were with them. One has since succumbed to her illness and died, and was very grateful for the shawl that was knitted mainly by me, but also contributed to (a few rows at a time) by 3 co-workers. So I have been able to introduce the prayer shawl ministry to others as well. I have a friend now in the terminal stages of cancer who is in need of a prayer shawl, so I’ll have to get my knitting needles/crochet hook out as soon as I can settle on a suitable pattern.
This is an important ministry for me, as it calls to mind the many friends I have been gifted with, and allows me some small way to tell them that I care. Not only that, the making of these shawls reminds me to pray now and then, and provides a good clear focus for my prayers.
Thank you for launching me on this important ministry.
