Prayer Shawls for those in need
Created By: Cynthia Cunha

I belong to a large church. But because of my own disability I couldn't help out in traditonal ways. So I talked with my pastor and asked him what he thought about a prayer shawl ministry. He asked me to write up my intentions and submit it to him. So, I did. To date I have made over a dozen shawls. Some have gone to those who have lost loved ones, others to those battling cancer. One of the women I gave one to has now a complete recovery of her cancer. And she is doing well. Another is still battleing but is able to still do some things. I continue to pray for each of the women I have made a shawl for. I made one for my mother-in-law so that when she feels lonely she can wear it and fell our love around her. She is 94 years old.

So far I am the only doing the shawls in my church, as I have been back and forth from Montana and California, for the past year. But now I am back in Montana, I am hoping to get additional women or men involved in this misintry as well.

I always have two shawls going at the same time. One crocheted the other knitted. I enjoy doing both and see them come together as I pray over each one.

I use mostly variageted yarns and it has been amazing how the shawls I have given to each of the women has been in their favorite colors.

I usually spend anywhere from a half hour to two hours a day with an occasional day off. I try to get 2-3 shawls done per month.

I also attach a prayer to each shawl, that I give.

The only advice I can think of to give is to pray about whether this is the ministry God has chosen for you to do, and then do it to His Glory. For it is unto Him I do this, to seve His people who are having a problem in their lives and need a little encouragement and comfort.

Thank you and God bless all who do these prayer shwals for those who are sick, dishearted, grieving, and just in need of comfort.

Cynthia

P.S. I don't currently have pictures but will send one as soon as I can.
