a special friend
Created By: Louise Potter

I don't exactly have a ministery, I have a love of knitting and crocheting and like to share what I make with friends and relatives. I hada originally picked up the prayer shawl ministry book and put it back. A few months later, a dear friend and co worker became ill with cancer. I went back looking for the prayer shawl book and purchased it. As my friend was put on life support, I wished that I had started earlier. But the shawl was completed and I brought it to the hospital, and a day or two later my friend was able to come off life support for a short time and during this time she told me over and over how much it meant to her. The next day she had a relapse and was again placed on life support, this time not to rally. Her husband called me the morning after she had passed away and relayed how much the shawl had meant to her. He went on to say that something was needed to cover her arms and would I mind if she was buried with the shawl covering her arms. I felt so honored and so blessed that they had made this request and of course said yes. Since then I have gone of to share the book with quite a few of my co-workers and have also made additional shawls myself. My sister had surgery for cancer and I sent one to her and later received an E mail asking if it was okay if she shared it with 2 of her special friends. When I told her I would be happy to make one for her friends, she said that sharing made it even more special. I continue to make the shawls and am presently working on one for the chaplain who has been kind enough to bless the ones already made for others. I work, on my shawls whenever I have free time, waiting to pick my granddaughter up from school or in the evenings watching TV. Since I go to work at 5 in the morning my evenings are short. My favorite pattern is the one on the cover, because I can pray for the person I am makin it for using this pattern. Thank You Lion Brand for introducing this opportunity to me. Sincerely, Louise Potter
