St. Paul Prayer Shawl Ministry
Created By: Dolores Strockbine
In march of 2007, I read about Prayer Shawl Ministry in a newsletter of the Lutheran Church in America. I felt this was a ministry that could be developed in our congregation. I put articles in our monthly church newsletter, giving the history and mission of the ministry. The response of interested ladies was overwhelming. In June of 2007 we had our first organizational meeting. We now have 20 ladies that meet once a month for prayer and handwork. Our workshop begins with prayer and we remember each person that has received a shawl with a special prayer petition. In September 2007 we dedicated 32 shawls at a Sunday worship service. This month we will dedicate shawls at our monthy meeting with a laying on of hands as we read together a dedication prayer. To date we have made 50 shawls which have been delivered by volunteers with a personal visit. We also have designed a special greeting card to accompany the shawl. We also have "shut-ins" that are making shawls for the ministry. An interesting aspect fo this ministry is that the people involved are not particpating in any other ministry in the comgregation. We have reached out to a whole new group.
