Prayer Shawl
Created By: Bette Perkins
A lady at my church lost her son at age 45. I had a number of prayer shawls on hand, so I decided to give her one. I found her house but unfortunately she wasn't home. However her 91 year old mother was there. She didn't know me but invited me inside. I gave her the prayer shawl that I had made for daughter, but she was so thrilled with it that she quickly wrapped it around her shoulders. I hadn't made it for her, but I didn't want to disappoint her and take it back. She loved it. Several days later I saw her daughter and she thanked me for the prayer shawl. However, when she got home (on the day that I was there) she couldn't get into the house. She tried for quite a while, until her mother finally answered the door, still wearing the prayer shawl. The mother had locked and bolted all the doors ~ gone to her bedroom, kneeled, and was reciting the rosary ~ still clutching the prayer shawl I had made. I gave another prayer shawl to the daughter.
At the present time I don't know of any churches which gives out prayer shawls. The church in Warren which originally did it has dissolved.
I really enjoyed making them.
