I am the only person in my church who either knits or crochets regularly. I started this ministry quite by accident making a shawl for a young woman having serious heart trouble. I offered to make a shawl for her while she was in the hospital to keep her warm. I learned about a prayer shawl ministry from reading articles at lionbrand.com and decided that I would ask to share my gift in this way on behalf of the church. I don't know how many shawls I have made and given away in the 2 years I have been active in the prayer shawl ministry but I have spent many long hours in prayer while knitting or crocheting the next shawl. My first piece of advice is to start the ministry with prayer and let that be your guide to taking the next steps. While others in my church aren't gifted in the fiber arts many have promised to pray with me while I knit or crochet my shawls. Ask for prayer partners!
