Prayer Shawl Ministry in memory of Christine Blatnik
Created By: Jean Donovan
My daughter Christine passed away from lung cancer on March 18,2007. She received a prayer shawl made from Lion Brand Homespun. She was so happy toget it and she wore it alot to keep warm. She received como and was always cold. When she died I had to do something for other cancer patients. So I got a few of my friends and we stared to make prayer shawl on October 3,2007.We meet every Thursday from 6-9PM at The Mother House of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Munson, Ohio. They let us use one of there large parlors to meet. At 7:00 one of the girls leads us in prayer from our prayer shawl ministry book and then we prayer the Rosary for the person who will be receiving the shawl. When the shawl is finished we have Fr. Jay of St. Helen, Newbury, Ohio bless the shawl. The Sisters made us up a prayer card to go with the shawl. To date we have given 43 shawls to cancer patients and very sick patients. We have sent several out of State to sick patients. They are so very happy to receive them. Also people are calling us up to have us give one to there love one in there family who are very sick. We use alot of your Lion Brand Homespun Yarn and the new Vanna White Yarn.We also work on them at home and we have some older ladies who can't drive at night work on shawls at home. Alot of us use our own money to buy yarn to make these prayer shawls. We have about 10 ladies that make them.
I can not send pictures on my computor. The Sisters wrote an article in there newsletter about us. If I had your address I would send it to you. We gave about 5 of the Sisters who have cancer a prayer shawl. They were so grateful.
My advie to start a group is to find a place to hold your meetings, set a day and time toget together and then put an ad in your church bulletin and other churchs bulletins.
God Bless, Ethel Pikus
