Our Prayer Shawl Ministry was started...
Created By: Patricia De Long

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry was started approximately a year ago at our church, and so far we have made over 100 shawls. Our group meets once a month, with an opening short prayer for the work of our hands, and then we knit or crochet and compare notes, gather names of those who might need a shawl, share thank-yous from those who have been given a shawl, and cry a little. knitting or crocheting seems so small a thing but the end product means a great deal to those people or families who receive the symbol of caring and prayers.

At our last meeting a member of a neighboring church (who was there for an entirely different reason) walked in and saw what we were doing. she was very interested in starting this ministry at her church and asked for details. she left with a pair of knitting needles and enough yarn to make a shawl. She promised to return next month with the finished product.

One of our members has the prayer shawl pattern book and has shared it with those who want to vary the pattern and stitches over and above the one basically recommended. The end result is fantastic as we each put our own spin on the end result.
