I started our Prayer Shawl Ministry in June 2007...
Created By: Kay Holland

I started our Prayer Shawl Ministry in June 2007 at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Florence,SC. This is a ministry that is very close to my heart because when my mother was living she always had a shawl or a sweater around her shoulders, so when I read about the "Prayer Shawls"I knew that this was something that God want me to do. So far our Church has given 45 shawls to shut-ins, seriously ill, people who have suffered a loss in their family, etc. I think I realized how much this ministry meant to people when a member of our church died and his prayer shawl was buried with him. This is a very meaningful ministry that every church should take a part in. The shawls are presented on the alter during our church service and the members are given the chance to go to the alter and pray for the person by laying their hand on the shawl. I found that when I started the ministry that when the word got around people were so interested in helping and if they couldn't knit they were will to help financially. Some were even willing to learn how to knit. May God's blessing be with any group that start a ministry.
