They Found my Mother Again!
Created By: Colleen Kessel

My mother is 81 and used to crochet and knit many years ago, but the last few years she has regressed to sleeping alot and just sitting in a chair. The family recently had her evaluated and found FLD, a form of dementia. She is now living with the youngest sister and two young grandsons.

I remembered Mom's love of knitting, so I starting on a baby cap, just casting on and started a K2, P2 pattern. She picked it up and started knitting again. Then I told one of my nephews that I would crochet him a hat for the winter. We looked on the web and found a pattern with ears pieces and long ties. It looked like a hat a fighter pilot would wear. Pretty goofy looking, but perfect for a 6 year old. Well, I worked fast and finished it in one evening. I started on the little nephew's cap and got sidetracked with Christmas trees and cleaning up and told him that Momo could make it too.

I have a precious picture of the 5 year old standing by his grandmother's chair, while she is finishing his cap. He wouldn't let her stop, until it was done.

They now have slippers and are talking with Momo about Harry Potters' scarves. They will have to tell Momo who Harry Potter is first.

With the help of my nephews, my mother is now knitting and crocheting again and the little ones are getting some wonderful memories to treasure.

Now my younger sister said she guessed it was time that she learned all of that "stuff."
