Knitting or Daytime TV???
Created By: Scott Rodrigues
I started teaching myself to knit on a whim. I bought a book called teach your pre-teen to knit. I grabbed the wrong size needles and yarn that was way too bulky for the scarf that I was going to make and went home. I spent several hours over the next few days creating what we now use as a saddle blanket for the hobby horse my husband made years ago in woodshop class. Not my biggest success ever! But about a year and a half ago my husband, my two kids and I were running around playing and I really messed up my ankle. I could work for days, I was off my feet completely for about a week and then on to the dreaded crutches for several weeks. As anyone who has used crutches knows that meant I was off my feet as much as I possible could be for those several weeks. With all of that sitting I was going MAD! I love to watch movies but when you have seen every one it the house two or three times you really start looking for something else to do. So I had my husband dig up the knitting stuff and I sat there with the book and learned what my mistakes were.
Now armed with info and my son to carry my purchases I was off to the yarn store. I got some great help and some nice yarn and now a year and a half later after lots of hours of rehab (thank God for knitting!!) I am on my feet and still I sit and knit as often as possible.
It was just what I needed to learn to keep me sane in this high stress world I work in. Now I hide in my car on my lunch break and work on my latest creations and I can relax and when I come back inside no engineer in the building can get me stressed out. So you could say that my knitting has saved the lives of several Process Engineers and a few Mechanical Engineers where I work as well as saving my sanity!
