The Beginning.....
Created By: S Sandi
Not a really long story but neat just the same. When I was nine I received my first set of knitting needles for my birthday. My brother even gave me a case for my needles. I have that case to this very day and it has lasted over 40 years.
My mother was always working on some knitting or crocheting article. I took up the same enjoyment,
When I was 13, I was struck with rheumatic fever. I was completely bedridden for three weeks in the hospital. When I came home, I was still unable to get upstairs to my bedroom and needed to sleep on the couch downstairs for almost three months.
With rheumatic fever, your wrists and ankles hurt very much. I still wanted to continue with my knitting. The doctor said that it was very good therapy. I was working on a green and white striped poncho at that time. (popular items in the 60's) I think that it not only helped to keep my wrists limber but it also gave my mind something to think about.
I have continued with many craft items since then. The poncho did not last as long as the case did. Sometimes when I need to get my mind off of a problem, I need to direct it to a creative item. I see something that I am making that will benifit someone because the items I make are usually gifts.
I have branched out to other crafts such as cards and scrapbooking too but I have not abandoned my love for the needles and the hooks and yarn.
