Inspired within my silent new life

Last Sept. (2006) At the age of 65, I suddenly became "Stone" deaf, not even able to hear my own voice. In social situations especially around Christmas time, I felt 'present but excluded' as I could no longer understand others - they simply ignored me and rarely any attempt to write to communicate either, except for my younger sister but she was not always around to help. And since I could no longer hear my own voice, I sensed that others were annoyed by either the volume or something, so I stopped trying to communicate....I withdrew into the familiar cozy and security of my home just reading, watching TV, enjoying my home and my cats and my son, when he was home. But, I enjoyed DIY TV Channels and all those how to do it shows and the "Knitty Gritty" show was my favorite and inspired me to give it a try.

And my sister showed me how to use the computer to access Lion Yarn for patterns and to buy yarns. Now I have a passion for knitting and also crochet. I hate for a project to end...getting done is not my primary goal, getting to do the knitting is such fun that I hate for the fun to end! I now am planning the next projects all the while working on the current one. I try to plan each project so that I learn something new each time. I have found that shopping online for my yarn, patterns, and all crafts is more cost effective for me than running around to all the craft and needlework shops wasting precious gas and time and still not finding exactly what it is that I need locally even with having to pay shipping and handling costs. I hope you all have as much passion about knitting as I do...and wish I had done this earlier in my life. Hugs, Virginia
