memere's love

Being 53; I have started reflecting on my life; the people who touched it; influenced it; changed it.
One such person was my grandmother.
When I was but 5 yrs old she feel and broke her hip. In the late 50's it was not as easy to get around with a broken hip and it was our JOB; mine and my 2 older brothersl; to keep Memere (french for grandmother) occupied during the hot summer months she spent recooperating. Daily we all sat on corners of her bed and she patiently taught us all to knit ... my first project was a Barbie Bikini ... REALLY.
Many stiches have been knit; many gift make with love and many many memories of Memere ... one of which was "anytime you make a gift for someone; you spend all the time your making it knitting love in each stich and anytime they wear it they feel your love".
Memere used to be upset that she was not wealthy enough to leave us with great wealths but she left us with something so much better ... great knowledge of receiving love and now passing it along in every garment I make for charity. 90% of my knitting is now for charity and I hope never to stop that ... I recently taught my mother how to knit again after many many years, and she too is not knitting for charity.
Memere, I know you sit at the right hand of God, in your rocker, knitting and smiling down on us as we pass along YOUR knowledge to any who want to learn and your gift to all in need.
