A Passion for Socks
Created By: Kate Watson
I have been an avid crocheter for many years now. I taught myself, then picked up the wonderful DVD for the computer. Anyway I have crocheted all the basic stuff granny square afghans,ripples,mile-a-minutes you name it. I belong to a group that meets twice a month. They are all knitters. Some know how to crochet but mostly they knit. I hate to knit. It takes so long and I can never get the tension right, but crochet and I are great friends so much so that I have developed a crochet "bump" on my right index finger. My passion for socks came about because the leader of our group said that you should not use cotton to do socks. I had always been the kid that when someone said no I went ahead and did the opposite. Yup I'm stubborn proud of it too. Anyway I made my first pair of crocheted socks out of what I thought was cotton but turned out to be acrylic. Hate those too hot. My next pair are cotton. Bright yellow/orange twisted together. Then I discovered the joy of toe-up socks. They are much easier and loads more fun to do. I had lots of fun at the Maryland Sheep and Wool bought some lovely sock yarns in lovely wools. They look great with crocs. I have to wear socks with my crocs at work. I am in retail. Anyway I really am having fun with socks and crocheting so much so that I bought some new yarn and several family members made comments on how much they like the color so I guess I will be putting lots of crocheted socks in stockings this year. I have to get busy. Keep Hooking!
