"This Ain't Your Grandma's Knitting"
Created By: Holli Pifer

I am almost 50 years old and live in rural Indiana. My fame in the world is that I was the first female attorney to return to my home town and practice law. They call me the Pioneer. Well have always been a knitter. Of course, at different times in my life. I was so excited when knitting became "popular" again!!!! Oh and the choice of yarns. I have found a wonderful little place lys in Rochester, Indiana. Several months ago a group of women invited me to come to their open knit night and were my eyes opened. They are all a few years older then me but not in mind. After the store closed and we were all knitting away and telling stories to my amazement out came bottles of wine, corkscrews, and dixie cups!!! I was shocked at these little old ladies. Well they looked at me and said, "This ain't your grandma's knitting." That evening I found a bound with these ladies that I had never felt before. We have traveled to chicago together to Lorna's Laces factory and are planning retreats for the winter. I have laughed with them until I thought I would wet myself and we have shared our sad moments too. I have only known them for a few months but I like they have been in my life forever. When we tell people we knit, they imagine little old ladies in rocking chairs. Of course, we just giggle and say "This ain't your grandma's knitting!" I can't stop knitting. My children sometimes tell people that I don't feed them because I knit. (This is true, they have a dad to do that!) Recently my two older flew to Oregon to see their aunt. They are 17 and 15. The 15 year old was reluctant to go alone and after I left them at the gate of the airplane a lady across from them pulled out her socks to knit and my daughter started crying because it reminded her of her mommy. She even wore crazy reading glasses. Well they became friends fast and the lady was going to Oregon and they talked about knitting all the was. I have taught my 8 year old to knit and the older girls, too. Sometimes we just sit and knit together. We have a Boys and Girls Club and my little just joined so I am going to offer my services to teach groups to knit. It is a wonderful habit to have. Sometimes expensive!!!

God Bless all the knitters in the world
