my husband's red sweater
when my husband and i were in college, he taught me how to knit, i could make a long piece. his mother had taught him.
fast-forward to married with 2 kids, my husband had been somewhere and walks in the door and hands me a bag with 1 skein of red and 1 of blue in w.w. and the request to make a sweater for him like his mother had made for his father. i west to k-mart, got a book for mens sweaters, the yarn and needles to make one. i knew cast on, knit and purl. i made it somehow and it looked good, and he wore it a long time.
we bought a house in lombard, illnois. by now, 4 kids. so, i made them sweaters. k-mart had this big yarn, bulky! it was easier. i made them scarves, hats, and many mittens. i would knit in a child's name on each mitten.
present time, we are retired. i found project linus. so, i've been making blankies. oh, and the baby outfits, blue and pink, ready for each grandkid getting born. and, the sweaters for each for christmas until age 10, then a granny afghan with the favorite colors for age 11.
i used to knit for my kids. then i found crochet, and that goes faster. so, i have the usual stash, and run out of places to put it. though i use a lot, somehow i have more.
