Still in stitches
I have sewn since 8 years of age; I began in a 4-H club. I started embroibering about the same time with the help of my grandmother.
While I was pregnant with my first son, I taught myself to both knit and crochet with the help of a small booklet I had purchased at the 'dime store.' I have done both ever since; having taught numerous others throughout my lifetime. I also taught various needle arts at a college while we were stationed on Governors Island, NY. While commuting to work in Manhattan from Staten Island there was an entire section saved for me and my 'students' on the ferry to and from the City.
For years I have crocheted a new baby blanket for each new babe in our church; also preemie hats, booties, sweaters, and blankets blankets for them, for local ones and babes in Tanzania, and Romania.
As a youth I had my right hand crushed; I worked as a bookkeeper for over 35 years - much of that time doing manual bookkeeping, crunching numbers on a 10 key with my right hand; and managing it just fine. I am now 65 and the doctors tell me as long as I continue to use my hands I will have them - if I quit using them, I will lose them.
Yes, I do so enjoy knitting and crochetting, as well as other forms of needlework, such as counted cross stitch, and sewing clothes, etc, for my 17 grandchildren.
