Crochet........Something I can do well.
Created By: Alexia Maben

Crochet....something I can do well. That makes me feel good that I have a talent and purpose to do this. My mom knitted when I was in 3rd grade and made me a red sweater and other clothing items. She taught me how to hold the knitting needles and it got easier. I remember some stiches but had a hard time learning to knit.

Then at age 12 my grandmother taught me to crochet. Looking back to then, I remember that the crocheting became easier than the knitting. I caught on better and had to redo stitches but could learn from mistakes better. This is not to say I will not knit in the future but given the choice I am fond of crochet. It is easy to get hooked on and great stress reliever. However, I enjoy new projects and have learned new stitches even if I have to go over and over to get them right.

I enjoy crocheting new items and see how my learning ability level has gone up.

I enjoyed watching my grandmother making afghans and doing stitches like the pineapple and things made with the filet stitch. She was such a good crocheter and had a great patience with me. I remember her telling me that each row needed a certain amount of stitches and not knowing why. Today I do know why and look a project over until it is perfect. Also, she taught me how to broomstick and I learned to do this very easily.

I am blessed to have a mother and grandmother who took the time to teach me how to knit and crochet.
